Altra's zero-drop road shoe aims for versatility. Does it succeed?

The Altra Escalante 3 combines zero-drop platform with FootShape toe box for natural running. After transitioning carefully and logging 250 miles, here's my assessment.
Zero Drop Experience
The 0mm drop takes adjustment if coming from traditional shoes. Start with short runs and build gradually. Once adapted, the zero drop feels natural and encourages good form.
FootShape Toe Box
The wide toe box allows natural toe splay. This is incredibly comfortable and reduces hotspots and blisters on long runs. Once you experience it, traditional narrow toe boxes feel restrictive.
Ego Foam Cushioning
The Ego foam provides moderate cushioning with good responsiveness. It's not as plush as max-cushioned shoes but adequate for daily training.
Transition Tips
If new to zero-drop, start with 2-3 mile runs and build slowly. Expect calf soreness initially. Full adaptation takes 4-6 weeks.
